VHS Freshman Wins Youth Soloist Competition, Will Perform with the KSO March 5th
Vicksburg High School freshman, Isaac Sandelin, will perform with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra after winning a youth piano competition.
The 14-year-old won the 2023-24 Jane Rooks Ross & Barry Ross Youth Soloist Competition at Miller Auditorium. He competed against 10 other musicians, performing the third movement of Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor.
Isaac plays jazz piano for the VHS jazz ensemble, as well as tenor drums in the marching band, and percussion for the wind ensemble. We are so proud of his accomplishments!
As part of his award, Isaac will perform with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra on March 5th at the orchestra's Magical Melodies concert.
Introduce the whole family to the magic of live music in this one-hour concert! Enchanting tunes come to life with short excerpts from The Magic Flute, Swan Lake, Harry Potter, and more.
The performance also celebrates young talent with a piano concerto by 14-year-old pianist Isaac Sandelin! You can get your tickets for the 7pm show on the KSO's website.
